  • Residents of Malibu or Topanga who know the terrain, want to give back, and can patrol during Red Flag conditions to help spot smoke and mitigate fire hazards early.

    • Learn what to watch for and how to respond

    • Patrol designated routes in high risk areas during Red Flag periods

    • Communicate with your team via two-way radio

    • Wear official identifying gear, including ID, safety vest, hat, shirt, radio, and vehicle identification tags

  • LASD requires a minimum of 30 volunteer hours per year to remain active. That is an average of 8 hrs/qtr. This includes meetings, patrols and events.

  • First, try to identify the location and type of fire (e.g., brush fire vs. BBQ). When in doubt, call 911 — dispatchers will ask for your location and any details that help them send the right resources.
