Arson Watch

Residents of Malibu or Topanga and surrounding areas of the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station jurisdiction who know the terrain, want to give back, and can patrol during ad hoc Red Flag conditions.
- Learn what to watch for such as signs of smoke and risky behavior during high wind conditions.
- Learn how to evaluate situations and respond appropriately in order to mitigate fire hazards early.
- Patrol designated routes in high risk areas during Red Flag periods.
- Communicate with your team via two-way radio.
- Wear official identifying gear, including ID, safety vest, hat, shirt, radio, and vehicle identification tags.
- Be a positive and well-informed safety ambassador in the community for LHSS and LASD.
LASD requires a minimum of 30 volunteer hours per year to remain active. That is an average of 8 hrs/qtr. This includes meetings, patrols and events.
First, try to identify the location and type of fire (e.g., brush fire vs. BBQ). When in doubt, call 911 — dispatchers will ask for your location and any details that help them send the right resources.
